 Company History

​​​​​Kantor+Pusat.jpgPT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) at the beginning of   the Dutch colonial period was a company called “Haven Bedrijf”. After the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, during the period 1945-1950, the Company changed its status to the Port Bureau. In 1969, the Port Bureau became a State-Owned  Enterprise  (SOE)  with  the status of Perusahaan Negara Pelabuhan (Port State Enterprise) abbreviated as PNP.


During the 1969-1983 period, Port State Enterprise changed into Lembaga Pengusaha Pelabuhan (Port Business Agency) with the name Badan Pengusahaan Pelabuhan (Port Operating Agency) abbreviated as BPP. In 1983, based on Government Regulation no. 11 of 1983 Port Operating Agency (BPP) was changed to Perusahaan Umum Pelabuhan I (Public Corporation of Port I) abbreviated Perumpel I. Based on Government Regulation no. 56 in 1991 Perumpel I changed its status to PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero).

The change of the Company’s name to PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) is based on Deed No. 1 dated 1 December 1992 of Imas Fatimah, S.H., Notary in Jakarta and has obtained approval from the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia based on Decision Letter no. C2-8519. HT.01.01 of 1992 dated 1 June 1992 and has been published in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia No. 8612 dated 1 November 1994, supplement No. 87.

Based on Deed No. 207 dated 30 June 2014 issued by Notary Risna Rahmi Arifa, SH, the Company’s articles of association was amended with an increase in the authorized capital of the Company from Rp1,800,000,000,000 (Rp1.8 trillion) divided into 1,800,000 shares with par value of Rp1,000,000 per share to Rp6,800,000,000,000 (Rp6.8 trillion) divided into 6,800,000 shares at par value of Rp1,000,000 per share. Based on the deed, there has also been an increase in the Company’s paid up capital from Rp511,960,000,000 which is divided into 511,960 shares with par value of Rp1,000,000 per share to Rp1,700,000,000,000 which is divided into 1,700,000 shares at par value of Rp1,000,000 per share. The amendment of the articles of association has been approved by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. AHU.05403.40.20.2014 dated 11 July 2014.

The Company is located and headquartered on Jalan Krakatau Ujung No. 100 Medan 20241, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Based on Government Regulation no. 64 year 2001, the position, duties and authority of the Minister   of Finance as a Shareholder in Limited Liability Company is delegated to the Minister of SOE of the Republic of Indonesia, whereas the Operational and Technical guidance are in the hands of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia and implemented by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.

Prior to 2008, the Company was engaged in port services, container services, container terminals and depots services, shipbuilding businesses, land, electricity and water services, refuelling, consolidation and distribution including animals, port consultancy services and customs business. Since 2008, in order to optimize the resources, the Company may conduct other business activities including transportation services, lease and repair facilities, ship maintenance and equipment, shiploading, property outside port activities, industrial areas, tourism and hospitality facilities, consultant and surveyors services, communication and information, port construction, expedition, health, supplies, shuttle buses, diving, tally, port passes and scales.

  • Establishment of PT Prima Terminal Petikemas (PTP) as a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero).
  • Port of Gunung Sitoli Area became the Port of Gunung Sitoli branch.

Changes in Name

Since the beginning of establishment until now (1991-2016), there has been no name change. The Company’s name is PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero).
